The 23rd Annual TASTE OF OMAHA Festival of Great Foods and Entertainment will be rescheduled for Friday, August 14th through Sunday, August 16th, 2020, at Elmwood Park.  Postponing due to COVID-19 concerns, the festival is working with public officials, Taste of Omaha board members, sponsors, committee, staff, suppliers, participants and volunteers to make the festivalthe best yet. The top priority is the safety of those attending, participating sponsors, restaurants, food companies, displayers, staff, volunteers and the community.  With some changes related to COVID-19 protocols implemented, this Annual tradition is a chance to give local restaurants a much-needed boost, and give our entire community a safe and healthy way to come together after this difficult time.

The “TASTE OF OMAHA” is a 3-day extravaganza and outdoor food festival open to the public and free to attend, thanks to the many partners and sponsors that support the Event.  “Feature Foods from many of Omaha’s top restaurants, good entertainment and family activities for the kids… and you have the recipe for the TASTE OF OMAHA,” says Mike Mancuso, Festival Director and Event Producer.  “Omaha has a tremendous reputation for fantastic restaurants and food companies”.   The Festival has become one of the biggest Annual Events for our city bringing together a dazzling selection of great foods and culinary delights, for people from throughout the Midwest area, to TASTE, relax and enjoy as a family activity.

The Festival will move to the Historic Elmwood Park which is one of Omaha’s largest parks and adjacent to the Omaha Campus of the University of Nebraska with free parking available to the public.   The festival plans to locate at the park until the Riverfront Re-development Project is finished which is projected to be in 2023.  Several locations were reviewed by the committee to move the TASTE OF OMAHA FESTIVAL with the planning beginning over a year ago. “The University of Nebraska- Omaha campus with ample parking and easy access to one of Omaha’s biggest and historic parks, Elmwood Park, allowed the festival an excellent location to continue and grow the event,” said Mancuso.  The 2020 Festival will offer free parking from the parking garage and surface parking areas on the Scott Campus at 67th & Pacific Streets as well as a Free Shuttle to and from the Taste of Omaha Festival Entrance throughout the event.  The UNO Main Campus parking garages and surface parking will also be available for free parking.

The 2020 Festival will showcase outstanding Restaurants with exciting live entertainment daily.  This year, the Annual Event, will add more entertainment for everyone’s taste featuring stages and attractions throughout the Scenic Elmwood Park.  All Entertainment during the 3-day extravaganza is free to attend. The Taste of Omaha offers continuous Free Concerts all weekend long including Top National Entertainers combined with the best popular area bands and musicians will again be continuously performing throughout the Festival.

Between eating food bites and enjoying the music, you can watch cooking demonstrations, browse the festival displays, taste wines in the Barefoot Wine Gardens, or simply relax in the Miller LiteBeer Gardens overlooking this historic park, all at one time and one place.  There is also plenty of Family Entertainment in the Hiland Dairy Family Village, including amusement rides for the kids, balloons, and face painting.  The Freddy’s KidZone Stage will again offer continuous performances of comedy, magic, exotic animals and more entertainment for the children including:  Poppin’ Penelope, the Amazing Lindy, Exotic Animals, Nebraska Native Raptors & Anthony’s Ballistic Balloons. The Festival also Spotlight’s Great Omaha Chefs on the Nebraska Lottery  Culinary Chef Stage featuring demonstrations by some of Omaha’s best chefs.

The Festival boils down to one thing, and that’s the food.  Restaurants of all varieties will pitch their tents at the Festival grounds for 3 days, cooking the specialty items that have made them some of the favorites in the Omaha area.  All types of food will be served at the “TASTE” – from Omaha’s pizza to juicy barbecued ribs. So put your taste buds on alert now because they will get a workout at the TASTE OF OMAHA FESTIVAL.  The Festival  offers each person an opportunity to taste a wide selection of  Omaha’s beloved restaurant dishes including Mexican, Italian, Greek, Oriental, Mediterranean, Polish as well as Continental and American cuisine. The Festival will also highlight Omaha’s rich ethnic diversity at the World Pavilion featuring unique Ethnic restaurants and foods with music, dancing and performers from colorful Flamenco and Irish Dancing to Fire Spinning Performers.  After tasting all of these delightful foods, you’ll probably want to top it all off with one of the fabulous desserts offered, from your favorite ice cream flavor to cheesecake, that is sure to make your day at the “Taste” complete.

The Festival will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and work with local and state authorities on how to best proceed in the coming months. Should circumstances dictate a change in our plans for 2020, we will share that information through our website and social media as quickly as we can.
